Philadelphia Eagles
There was a desperate need for the Philadelphia Eagles to improve their talent at the wide receiver position this offseason. They answered those calls by selecting Jalen Reagor in the first round and acquiring Marquise Goodwin from the San Francisco 49ers on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.
The Eagles’ most productive receiving options in 2019 were Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, and Miles Sanders, none of which play the wide receiver position. There were injury problems for Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Algholor at times, but they underwhelmed on the field for their roles.
Philadelphia needed a speedy yet versatile receiving threat like Reagor that can spread the field vertically, on crossing routes, and make big plays in catch-and-run situations. According to ESPN, they averaged just 6.5 yards per target when passing to the wide receiver position, making it much easier for opposing defenses to gameplan against.
The acquisition of Goodwin will likely help in a rotational capacity at most but he’s at least an incredibly fast receiver to add to the mix. They don’t need him to be as impactful as Reagor, but just having more speed at the receiver spot will help the rest of the unit.
