4. Russell Wilson MVP Watch
Speaking of MVP candidates, has anyone been watching Russell Wilson this year?
The longtime Seahawks veteran is playing the quarterback position at a level that shouldn’t even be possible in high school, let alone the NFL. If you need to know one stat about Wilson’s 2020 season, let it be this one. The quarterback, through eight quarters of live NFL football, has thrown the ball 63 times. 11 of those attempts have been incomplete passes, and NINE of them have been touchdowns.
Not only is Wilson far and away the NFL’s leader in touchdown passes, not only is he outpacing everybody in touchdown percentage with 14.3% of his passes winding up in the endzone (not a typo, literally 14.3% of his passes have gone for touchdowns. That isn’t normal) but he also just happens to be the NFL’s most accurate passer as well– completing 82.5% of his passes, oh by the way, all while averaging an NFL second-highest 9.7 yards per attempt.
The numbers speak for themselves, but watching Wilson actually play might somehow be even more impressive. These aren’t all dink-and-dunk throws that the Seahawks’ skill position players are cashing in on. These are big-time NFL throws, against big-time NFL defenses like the Patriots, and Wilson has been deadly.
On Sunday, Wilson will get to carry his MVP campaign against a Dallas defense that has been struggling against the pass. Can Wilson realistically carry his insane two-game pace throughout the year? No, probably not. But he stands a good chance once again to look pretty damn impressive in Week 3.
