Indianapolis Colts
Before the Indianapolis Colts traded the No. 13 selection to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for DeForest Buckner, the momentum of Jordan Love’s draft stock was soaring. Indianapolis was thought of as a team potentially interested in taking him.
While the Colts do not have a first-round selection, that doesn’t mean they can’t land a quarterback. Love may be a more realistic option than once thought as the draft approaches, too. However, they would likely need to trade up from No. 34 to be able to select him.
There isn’t an urgent need for a quarterback from the Colts’ perspective after signing Philip Rivers. However, that arrangement isn’t a long-term solution. Targeting a quarterback selection in the 2020 NFL Draft would enable Indianapolis to begin the development process early.
A common thought regarding Love is that he has very high upside but needs to better his understanding of making reads. Being able to sit behind Rivers and learn under Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni for at least one season would be as close to ideal as it gets.
