Washington Redskins
The Redskins experienced several successful seasons since passing on Aaron Rodgers. The team even went 10-6 in 2005, making it to the Divisional Round before losing to the eventual NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks.
In 2005, Washington used the ninth overall pick on cornerback Carlos Rogers. Rogers spent six seasons with the Redskins before heading to San Francisco, where he made the only Pro Bowl of his career. While he turned into a reliable starter, Rogers can’t compare to the hypothetical situation of selecting Rodgers.
Washington’s situation becomes even more indefensible when looking at their second pick in the first-round. The Redskins got their hands on the 25th overall pick, which they used to draft Jason Campbell immediately after Green Bay selected Rodgers.
Campbell spent four seasons in Washington, where he started 52 games. The Auburn product went 20-32, and the Redskins only narrowly snuck into the playoffs in 2007 with a 9-7 record.
After leaving the Redskins, Campbell spent time with the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders.
The Redskins have made four playoff appearances since 2005, three of which resulted in losses during the Wild Card Round. Eight different quarterbacks have led the Redskins in passing yards over the past 15 seasons, and the organization is on its sixth official head coach during that time.
As Ron Rivera prepares for his first season as Washington’s head coach, he’s dealing with an unusual quarterback situation. The franchise drafted Dwayne Haskins in the first-round last year, but he performed poorly as a rookie. The team traded for Kyle Allen, who imploded with Carolina last year. Alex Smith also looms in the background as he rehabs from a devastating leg injury.
