Aaron Rodgers’ Friendly Approach With Jets Seems To Be Disappearing

For the first time since acquiring Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets saw a change in his demeanor. Since being acquired from the Green Bay Packers, all reports have indicated that he is as happy as he has been in years.

During practice, he has been helpful, aiding his teammates that are learning a new playbook that he knows like the back of his hand. Patience has been shown, but with the Jets taking part in a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers this week, Rodgers’ frustrations began to show,

For the first time since joining Gang Green, not everything was smiles and rainbows. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, Rodgers flashed some impatience for the first time as things weren’t going according to plan with him on the field.

“I sensed frustration from everybody — everybody on the O-line, Aaron, the coaches,” center Connor McGovern said. “You can’t go three-and-out in a two-minute drive like that.”

The Panthers pass rush was finding success against the Jets’ offensive line, which led to the three-and-out and frustration from Rodgers. That is not something that has been seen this offseason yet for New York.

To make matters worse, the Jets’ defense gave up a score to rookie Bryce Young and the Panthers’ offense, who drove right down the field for a field goal. Rodgers’ downplayed his frustrations that may have been on display.

“I thought we maybe didn’t have the same type of energy [as Carolina], for whatever reason, at the start of practice,” Rodgers said. “But I thought there were some good things — a lot of learning tape out there. I thought it was good to be out there against a different defense. I thought we handled the front pretty well in the run game. Pass game, there were some issues.”

For now, Rodgers is still doing and saying all of the right things. Joining the Jets after spending 18 years with the Packers will require some adjustments from everyone. New York hasn’t had a player this polarizing at the position since they acquired Brett Favre in 2008.

But, if the offense has more performances such as the one they did against the Panthers, frustration is going to begin bubbling over. It is inevitable from a player of Rodgers’ caliber, but wide receiver Corey Davis did say he is going his best to keep his cool.

I could see that changing, yeah,” Davis said. “He’s been real patient, real lenient with us, and working with us and making sure we get everything down, which is what we need. But I could imagine it going the other way if it doesn’t pick up.”

While this certainly isn’t the start anyone had hoped for, there is still time for the Jets’ offense to get things on track. They have four more weeks until the regular season gets underway, which will provide them with plenty of practice to iron out any issues that persist.
