Things have been spiraling out of control for the New York Jets the last two weeks of the season. The situation at quarterback with Zach Wilson has gone exactly how everyone except the team’s brain trust thought it would; poorly.
Wilson has struggled mightily as the replacement for Aaron Rodgers under center. The team has gone 0-2, losing to the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots. While the Cowboys dominated their matchup, the game against the Patriots was there for the taking.
That has been the issue in a lot of Wilson’s starts against New England. Had New York received just average quarterback production, not bottom of the barrel, they wouldn’t be on a 15-game losing streak against their AFC East rivals.
During the game on Sunday, there were some flare-ups on the sidelines as well. The players seem to be frustrated with how things have unfolded as there were Super Bowl aspirations for this team just three weeks ago.
The arguments are something that Rodgers said he doesn’t like to see. During his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the Jets quarterback let his feelings be known, saying his teammates need to grow up and show more poise.
In some regards, Rodgers is right. If the Jets want to get things back on track, they need everyone on the same page. The sideline squabbles and capturing of videos of arguments is something that cannot happen.
However, it is easy to see why players would be frustrated. After watching a hot start in 2022 go down the drain because of inept quarterback play, they are witnessing the same thing in 2023. There is only so much that the rest of the offense can do to compensate for a quarterback that isn’t NFL caliber.
