Adoree’ Jackson is getting set to hit free agency next month, and the cornerback is hoping the New York Giants bring him back for another run.
“If I come back, it’s all good,” Jackson said, via Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post. “If I don’t, is it going to hurt? It will, but I know it’s a business. At the same time, I know what I can do and the services that I bring to an organization — not just on the field, but being a locker-room presence and different things around the community. I’m hopeful, but you can never put anything past anybody.”
The Giants signed Jackson to a three-year deal back in March 2021.
Jackson, who played his collegiate football at USC, was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 18th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He spent the first four years of his career with the Titans, with his best season coming in 2018 when he played every game and racked up 73 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a pair of fumble recoveries and 10 passes defended.
Jackson’s last year in Tennessee was marred by injuries, as he played in just three games.
Injuries have always played a role throughout Jackson’s tenure in New York. He has played in just 37 out of a possible 51 games during his time with Big Blue.
This past season, the 28-year-old appeared in 14 contests and registered 63 tackles, a pick, a forced fumble, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown.
The Giants will have nearly $27 million in cap room entering the offseason, so they have the financial wherewithal to bring Jackson back if they choose to do so.
However, they may examine other ways to improve their 19th-ranked pass defense.
