Allen Lazard Named Possible Free Agency Target For Saints

The Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard had an impossible task in 2022. He had become the team’s No. 1 wide receiver by default, helping replace Davante Adams, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders. In addition, No. 2 receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling moved on in free agency, signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.

No one could replicate what Adams has been doing for years as Aaron Rodgers’ No. 1 target, but Lazard did put together a career season. He had 100 targets, 60 receptions and 788 yards, which were all the best of his career, to go along with five touchdowns.

Allen Lazard is an integral part of the team’s passing offense, but could he take the same path as Adams and Valdes-Scantling did in 2022? It certainly sounds that way, as he recently hinted at leaving the team in free agency.

If Allen Lazard is going to move on, the Packers will have another huge void to fill in their lineup. The other question is, which team would he be moving on to? A potential landing spot for the Iowa State product is the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints look to have hit it big with their 2022 rookie class at wide receiver, nabbing Ohio State’s Chris Olave in the first round and Rashid Shaheed has an undrafted free agent out of Weber State. Both were contributors this season but Allen Lazard would bring an element to the offense that they are missing.

Standing 6’5” and weighing 227 pounds, Allen Lazard would bring size and physicality to the wide receiver group. That is something they could be lacking with Jarvis Landry set to become a free agent. Allen Lazard has shown that he can be an elite blocker in the running game and has now proven he can be a difference-maker as a pass catcher as well.

At 27 years old, Allen Lazard is not even in his prime yet. He could have another level to take his production and would provide whoever is under center for the Saints next season a reliable pass catcher to get the ball to.
