The Philadelphia Eagles appeared to be in full control of their Monday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Head coach Nick Sirianni made a questionable decision late in the game that ultimately backfired. Despite having Saquon Barkley—arguably one of the league’s premier running backs—in the backfield, Sirianni didn’t lean on him much in the second half.
Barkley, who has proven himself reliable in tight situations, had a costly drop in a crucial moment that shifted the momentum in the Falcons’ favor.

Instead of running the ball with Barkley, Sirianni opted for a play-action pass that slipped right through Barkley’s fingers. The drop led to the Eagles settling for a field goal, which gave the Falcons just enough time to march down the field and secure the win.
Following the drop, former NFL star Antonio Brown took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock Barkley, calling him “washed.”
While Brown’s jab was sharp, it’s undeniable that a player of Barkley’s caliber cannot afford to make that kind of mistake in a high-stakes situation. The missed opportunity felt like a turning point, one that fans won’t soon forget.
However, despite the drop, Barkley didn’t have a bad game by any means. The former New York Giants star logged an impressive 95 yards on 22 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He also contributed 39 rushing yards in just his second drive of the night, proving that he’s still a threat on the ground.
Additionally, Barkley caught four passes for 21 yards, with the lone incompletion being that crucial one late in the game.
The Falcons’ defense deserves credit for their resilience, proving that they won’t be an easy team to wear down this season. They made critical stops when it mattered most, stifling the Eagles’ attempts to control the clock and move the chains.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to shake the feeling that the Eagles let this one slip through their hands.
In the end, the loss will undoubtedly sting for Philadelphia, and the focus will turn to how they can bounce back. Sirianni’s decision-making will come under scrutiny, and Saquon Barkley will likely feel the weight of that drop in the days to come.
