Arizona Cardinals: 3 Sophomore Break Out Candidates in 2018

Haason Reddick, Edge Rusher/Linebacker

The uber-versatile, former first-round linebacker was not as effective as the Cardinals would have hoped last year, but circumstances certainly deserve part of the blame. According to Pro Football Reference, Haason Reddick started three games last year, though appearing in all 16, totaling 2.5 sacks, 20 tackles, and two forced fumbles. While he was on the field, he produced, but his limited snap count held him back. This year, free from restrictions, Reddick is in store for a big year.

Haason Reddick rose up draft boards two years ago for a multitude reasons. For one, he ran a 4.52 40 yard dash, impressing the entire league. This was probably the main reason for his meteoric climb. Additionally, he flashed impressive technique, burst, and strength for a linebacker many viewed as a project coming out. Because of this, his versatility, the true reason he will blossom into a quality NFL talent, becomes apparent. He is athletic enough to be an awesome coverage linebacker and a beast in the run game. To add, he is also talented enough to rush the passer at a high level. This makes him one of the most dynamic pieces to an exciting defense.

This year, expect the former Temple Owl to start every game he is healthy for, and to be seen in a plethora of looks. He can play any linebacker position in a 3-4 and Steven Wilks will be sure to utilize him all over the field. With Chandler Jones and Markus Golden also rushing the passer, opportunities will be plentiful for Reddick. He is poised for a big year in terms of rushing the passer, but his coverage abilities will most likely fly under the radar. This is subsequent to rushing the passer being more important in today’s NFL. The steps Haason Reddick is about to take this season will be heard, and feared, across the league.
