At this point in time, it’s a forgone conclusion that Russell Wilson will not be back with the Denver Broncos next season.
Back in 2022, the Broncos orchestrated a blockbuster trade to bring the former Super Bowl champion to their roster, sealing the deal with a substantial contract extension. However, this high-profile union hasn’t yielded the desired results, as the Broncos have failed to secure a postseason berth in the last two seasons.
Compounding the disappointment are reports of clashes between Russell Wilson and head coach Sean Payton, suggesting that a fresh start may be in the best interest of both the team and the quarterback.
The challenge here is that Russell Wilson is bound by a multi-year contract, making it necessary for the Broncos to explore potential trade options if they intend to part ways with him.
Intriguingly, former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander has hinted at the possibility of such a trade. During a recent appearance on FanDuel TV’s Up & Adams, he alluded to the brewing trade rumors involving Wilson connecting to the Atlanta Falcons.
“I’ve been hearing, maybe Atlanta. They’ve got a good tight end, good receivers, line’s okay.”
A relocation to Atlanta could be a logical move for Wilson. In the Georgia city, he would find himself surrounded by a promising roster of young, talented players, including tight end Kyle Pitts and running back Bijan Robinson.
The Falcons have been on the hunt for their next franchise quarterback ever since trading Matt Ryan, and Russell Wilson would undoubtedly be the most accomplished quarterback to step into that role since the departure of the former MVP.
Should Desmond Ridder not emerge as the long-term solution in Atlanta, the Falcons, under the leadership of new head coach Raheem Morris, may seriously consider a seasoned veteran like Wilson as a potential offseason acquisition.
