Falcons Offensive Star Reveals Major Injury Update On Himself

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson had been sidelined for the last month due to an ankle injury, but he was able to participate in organized team activities on Monday.

Robinson called the injury a “light sprain” and said that the injury had been plaguing himself since last season. That’s definitely not comforting news for Falcons fans, especially considering that Robinson said it began hindering him again at the start of offseason workouts.

The good news is that Robinson says he feels “close” to normal, via Marc Raimondi of ESPN.

“It was just like kind of feeling weird, like on the side,” Robinson said. “So, I was just trying to make sure I don’t feel it at all before I come back in.”

Bijan Robinson Will Be Pivotal for Falcons in 2024

Atlanta selected Robinson with the eighth overall pick of the NFL Draft last spring. These days, that is a high pick for a running back, which tells you how much the Falcons liked Robinson.

The 22-year-old played in every game during his rookie campaign, racking up 976 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 58 receptions for 487 yards and four scores.

Robinson’s shiftiness brought to mind images of legendary halfback Barry Sanders for some, which has many salivating over the idea of what Robinson can do in 2024.

The University of Texas product should absolutely be a crucial part of the Falcons’ offense next season, and now, he actually has a reliable quarterback in Kirk Cousins.

Robinson is already seeing the effects of Cousins in offseason workouts.

“Having a guy like that who is already, in my opinion, a top-10 quarterback [and] having a guy out there and really show it, it’s been fun to have him,” Robinson said.

Outside of Robinson, wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts, Atlanta is fairly thin on offensive weapons, particularly from a depth perspective.

That means Robinson will probably be getting a whole lot of touches this coming season after nearly splitting carries with Tyler Allgeier in 2023.

The Falcons went 7-10 this past year and have not made the playoffs since the 2017-18 campaign. A hopefully healthy Cousins and Robinson should definitely help Atlanta in its quest to break the drought.
