Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is entering a make or break season in 2020. He seemed to be trending upwards in 2018, throwing for 24 touchdowns, 3,223 yards while completing 66% of his passes.
He wasn’t a transcendent player in 2018 by any means, but playing behind the best defense in football and having a smart play caller guiding him on the field, Trubisky was able to lead his Bears to a 12-4 record and a division title. Last year was a different story for Trubisky and his Bears.
He regressed in nearly every statistical category, throwing for less touchdowns (17), less yards (3,138) and completing a lower percentage of his passes (63.2%). Trubisky’s play was so alarming in 2019 that the front office decided to invest in an insurance policy, trading for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles.
Head coach Matt Nagy has stated that he’ll hold an open competition at the quarterback position during camp this year between Trubisky and Foles. Ideally, the team would love to see Trubisky step up to the challenge and prove that he was worth the second overall pick in 2017.
If he does land the job, he’ll also have to produce at a high level to ensure he keeps it throughout the year. Here are two major bold predictions for Trubisky in 2020.
