Bears have the third-best odds of signing Philip Rivers in free agency

The Chicago Bears suffered through a brutal 2019 NFL season after coming into the year as one of the Super Bowl favorites in the NFC. A lot of their struggles had to do with the struggles of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Now, there are a ton of questions surrounding the team entering the offseason.

One of the questions has to do with whether or not they will look into signing another quarterback. There are a couple of very good veteran quarterbacks available in free agency and the Bears could consider that option.

When it comes to Philip Rivers, SportsLine released their odds on who will end up signing the Los Angeles Chargers’ impending free agent. Surprisingly the Bears ended up being listed as No. 3 on the list.

Rivers would be an intriguing addition for the Bears. It would make sense if signing him didn’t mean that they would be giving up on a quarterback they paid so much for the chance to draft. Perhaps they could hold on to Trubisky and let him sit and learn behind Rivers for a couple seasons.

Unfortunately, Trubisky would not take the demotion very well. Nor would any player who was in his situation.

Matt Nagy and the coaching staff has been very adamant about Trubisky being their starter moving forward. Chicago may consider other options, but it doesn’t seem very likely that they go out and sign Rivers or Tom Brady. It just wouldn’t be a wise decision for the long-term future of their franchise.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Rivers this offseason. The Bears are a team to watch, but who knows if they’re truly looking to make a quarterback change.
