What To Expect From Mitchell Trubisky Against The Lions
If the Bears are going to get back on track and become a playoff contender once again, they need their quarterback play to improve. Trubisky will be on a short leash and if he struggles, Foles is going to take over the starting job fairly quickly.
However, even with the added pressure, Trubisky should start the season off strong. He isn’t going to put up superstar numbers, but they are going to be solid. Add in the fact that the Lions don’t have a great defense and that prediction becomes even more likely.
Gone are the days of the Lions having Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay on the roster. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. Detroit did go out and bring in Desmond Trufant following his release from the Atlanta Falcons, but their secondary leaves a bit to be desired.
Matt Nagy is going to do everything he can to get the most out of Trubisky. The Bears also have a talented second-year running back in David Montgomery. If they can get the running game established, the passing game will come.
At this point in time, no one truly knows what to expect from the Bears’ offense. It would be reasonable to expect around 250 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in Week 1.
Chicago isn’t going to have a juggernaut offense this season. They are going to have to have all pieces firing on all cylinders to have a dangerous offense. Trubisky may never turn out to be a star, but he has enough talent to be an above average game manager.
Expect to see Mitchell Trubisky come out looking to prove that he deserves to remain the starter. The Bears may have a decision to make at some point this season, but Trubisky’s Week 1 performance will be good enough for now.
