Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are a much better football team this year than they were in 2019. Very few people will argue against that. However, the team is still 0-2 following the first two games on their 2020 schedule.
After falling to 0-2, Burrow made it very clear that he is not enjoying losing. He is doing everything in his power to get better to lead his team to wins. There is one thing in particular that he is focusing on.
Burrow spoke out about his primary focus and the one thing that he is focused on the most entering Week 3. That “one thing” happens to be making bigger plays through the air.
“That’s something that’s an emphasis for me this week, is just getting that right. We’ve also just played two styles of defenses that don’t give up big plays and keep everything in front of you and make you check it down and make you work down the field. But we’ve also missed some opportunities to put the ball down the field. We are gonna get more opportunities. We just have to connect on them.”
There is no reason that the Bengals can’t become a dynamic offense. Burrow has a big and accurate arm, as he has already shown in his first two career games. Cincinnati also has dynamic weapons at his disposal.
A.J. Green may not be the dynamic superstar that he once was, but he is still a star and needs to step up more. Tyler Boyd is a rising star as well. Throw in Tee Higgins and the Bengals have three wide receivers capable of making plays.
Heading into Week 3’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Bengals have a real opportunity to make some big plays. The Eagles have struggled defensively so far this season and are prone to giving up big plays.
If Joe Burrow and the Bengals can figure out how to make more chunk plays, their offense will be even more potent. They need to figure things out on the defensive side of the ball, but the rookie quarterback is focusing on what he can control.
