Bills Connected As Possible Trade Suitor For RB Josh Jacobs

The Buffalo Bills revamped their running back depth chart this offseason. Devin Singletary, who had been the starter the last few seasons, moved on in free agency, signing a deal with the Houston Texans.

Without him in the mix, an opportunity opened up for James Cook to take on a larger role in the offense. Alas, the Bills must see him as only a third-down and passing situation back as they signed Latavius Murray and Damien Harris in free agency.

Establishing the run has been something the Bills have struggled to do in recent seasons. Counting on Harris, who has seen his yards per carry drop in consecutive seasons and Murray, who is entering his age 33 season, could be a risk.

Given their salary cap issues, making a splash at the running back position may not be in the cards. However, the Bills have shown interest in making a big upgrade as they also checked in on Christian McCaffrey before he was traded ahead of the deadline and were linked to Aaron Jones as a potential trade target.

If the right opportunity presented itself, Buffalo seems willing to make a deal. Could they turn their attention to Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders? The Bills were named a logical landing spot for the 2022 league-leading rusher by Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports.

Jacobs would present the Bills with a huge upgrade in the backfield. He showed last season he is more than capable of handling a large workload as the focal point of the Raiders’ offense. Jacobs has also made strides in pass protection and as a receiver, turning into a true every-down back.

Las Vegas placed the franchise tag on Jacobs, so he is locked in for 2023 at the least. But, if they aren’t going to work out a long-term deal with him, trading him for some assets would make sense.

The 2019 first-round pick doesn’t seem thrilled with the new regime, showing displeasure for the Raiders trading Darren Waller earlier this offseason. Could Jacobs meet a similar fate? If he does, the Bills would be a great landing spot for him.
