A lot of time these days on sports radio and shows on television is spent on comparisons. This is the age of player comps, as players in college get compared to pros and then in the professional ranks peers are compared constantly. While there are sometimes similarities between players, everyone is unique and has their own way of playing the game. On a recent episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Von Miller of the Buffalo Bills was a guest. He was asked a lot about some similarities between his last team, the Los Angeles Rams, and his current team.
He was then asked about his current quarterback, Josh Allen. Miller said that Allen is one of one, but also made an interesting comparison for him. It wasn’t a football player that Miller compared his quarterback to, instead, saying he is like actor Will Ferrell.
“Josh is like the Will Ferrell of quarterbacks… He’s so lighthearted, he doesn’t take anything serious.”
Miller did compare Allen to Peyton Manning, but not for his football acumen. Instead, he said Allen has a similar humor to Manning. Skill set-wise, there really isn’t another player in the NFL that compares to what Allen brings.
There are other dual-threat quarterbacks in the league, but none are 6’5” and weigh 237 pounds as Allen does. He is used as the Bills’ goal line and the short yardage back at times but also possesses a cannon for an arm to get the ball deep downfield.
An MVP award could very well be in Allen’s future sometime soon. He is that good of a player and the Bills are certainly happy to have him on their side. This season he has completed 63.8 percent of his passes for 3,553 yards and 26 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He has added 628 rushing yards on 99 carries for another six touchdowns as well.
