Bills WR Gabe Davis Doesn’t Hold Back About Free Agency

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis found himself sidelined for both of Buffalo’s playoff games this season due to a PCL sprain. As a result, there’s a distinct possibility that his tenure with the Bills concluded during the regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins, a game in which Davis failed to make a single reception, marking the fifth time he had struggled to do so throughout the season.

For Gabe Davis, the future holds the promise of potential opportunities with several teams willing to offer him more lucrative deals compared to what Buffalo might propose, primarily based on his untapped potential.

Davis did not hold back when talking about his upcoming free agency. He appears more than ready to talk to other teams around the league. Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk revealed more.

“Davis told reporters in the Bills’ locker room today that he expects to see what other teams are ready to offer him when free agency begins in March before he makes any decisions about where he’s playing in 2024 and beyond. Although Davis said he remains open to staying in Buffalo, he wants to know what else is out there.”

The bar was set remarkably high for Davis ever since his explosive performance of 8 catches, 201 yards, and 4 touchdowns in the Bills’ AFC Divisional Round loss to the Chiefs two years ago. However, for the second consecutive year, Davis had a respectable season, amassing 45 catches for 746 yards and 7 touchdowns, but still falling short of the star status he hinted at during that memorable postseason game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The pressing question now revolves around whether the Bills are prepared to meet the financial expectations Davis harbors, especially when considering that players like Stefon Diggs, Dalton Kincaid, James Cook, and potentially even Khalil Shakir are positioned as the primary targets in the Bills’ passing attack moving forward.

The absence of extension talks during the season suggests that Davis might not be in the Bills’ long-term plans. In fact, Davis himself revealed that there had been no meaningful discussions regarding a contract extension.

Part of the rationale behind the possibility of Davis departing from Buffalo is the impending increase in Josh Allen’s cap hit, which is set to exceed $40 million in 2024. With the Bills already grappling with cap constraints, general manager Brandon Beane faces a series of challenging decisions in the coming months. Among these decisions, letting Gabe Davis walk in free agency appears to be one of the more likely scenarios.
