Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in their loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, and while there were a plethora of factors at play in the 49ers’ choke job, one moment truly stands out.

Late in the game, San Francisco wide receiver Ronnie Bell dropped a perfectly thrown pass by Purdy that would have put the Niners into field-goal range. The 49ers punted at the end of the possession, and the Rams marched down the field to kick the game-winning field goal.

Afterward, Purdy expressed support for his embattled teammate.

“He’s a young guy. I love him, man,” Purdy said, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “And we’ve all got Ronnie’s back, so we’re going to continue to need him and build him up and we’re all in this together, man. It’s a team sport, man. So it’s not one player, one play here. It’s all of them all put together.”

Bell logged one catch for 12 yards on three targets in total during San Francisco’s defeat.

The 24-year-old was selected by the Niners in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft and had a very limited role during his rookie campaign, posting six catches for 68 yards and three touchdowns.

Brock Purdy had a brilliant day in his own right, going 22-for-30 with 292 yards and three touchdowns in what was his best performance of 2024 thus far.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the 49ers suffered their second straight loss to fall to 1-2.

The San Francisco 49ers will host the New England Patriots next Sunday.
