Pass Rush Still Among League’s Best
The Broncos are at their best when they are getting to the quarterback. Denver still has two elite edge rushers in Bradley Chubb and Von Miller. Chubb missed most of the season last year to injury. This allowed opposing offenses to focus more on Von Miller.
Due to the extra attention, Miller had a down year with eight sacks. Teams won’t have that luxury this year and the expectation is for both players to be over 10 sacks this season.
The edge rushers are the stars of the Broncos pass rush. However, Denver still has a good interior pass rusher in Shelby Harris. Oh yes, they also added a pro bowl defensive tackle in Jurell Casey. The ability to bring pressure from the inside as well as the outside makes it virtually impossible for opposing offenses to scheme against.
With all of this talent, the Broncos’ pass rush may be one of the best in the league going into 2020.
All the pressure against the opposing quarterbacks will also aid other areas on the defense. Opposing offensive lineman would focus too much on the rushers, they could miss blitzing backers. The opposing quarterbacks will feel hurried and make bad passes.
With the inability to throw it forces the opposing offenses to be one dimensional, so defensive play calling becomes much easier. The Broncos pass rush will be better next year, and that will lead to victories.
