Broncos Added Big Name Vets For Less

Denver has quietly made some of the best offseason moves in the NFL. While Broncos fans should be excited about the rookies and young future stars, Denver also acquired some very good veterans in the offseason. Veteran players are very important to have around young players.

They help mold and teach the rookies. Veterans provide leadership in the locker room. They also help teams jump from exciting future team to playoff contender. Most teams owe much of their success to veteran players. The Broncos did a good job addressing their needs on both sides of the football.

On offense the Broncos signed guard Graham Glasgow to a 4 year 44 million dollar contract. Glasgow is a very solid starting guard who will help improve an already decent Broncos offensive line. Denver also signed veteran running back Melvin Gordon. While Philip Lindsey has been solid, and really should be talked about more, he is an undersized back.

Typically teams will not want a back under 5’10 to be their workhorse. It is likely Gordon and Lindsey will be like a “lightning and thunder” combination. Gordon may get the majority carries in short yard and goal line situation, but Lindsey will have fresh legs and be able to pop off more big runs.

On the defensive side is where Denver truly worked their magic. The Broncos were able to trade for two former pro bowlers, for really what amounted to very little. Denver snagged corner AJ Bouye from Jacksonville for a 4th round pick. The Titans traded away Jurell Casey for just a 7th round pick

Although both players may be a bit past their prime, they can still play quality football. Honestly, it wouldn’t be surprising to see one of them makes the pro bowl this season.
