Denver Broncos: Biggest Strengths and Weaknesses for 2018

USA TODAY Sports

Strength: Wide Receiver

The wide receiver corps of the Broncos is very talented. Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are returning as the key guys, while they added Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton in the draft.

Thomas had his worst year since 2011 last year. He finished the year with 83 catches for 949 yards and five touchdowns. This is likely due to the bad QB play, as he’s totaled 90-plus catches and 1,000-plus yards every year since 2011.

Look for that to happen again with Case Keenum at the helm.

Sanders has always been an underrated receiver in the NFL. Like Thomas, Sanders struggled last year as well. This again is likely due to the abysmal play at quarterback last year. Since joining Denver in 2014, Sanders has had 75-plus receptions and 1,000-plus yards as the second option. Sanders has come into this offseason looking healthy and ready to return to his peak form.

Sutton was the Broncos second-round draft pick this year. At SMU, Sutton was a talented wideout, collecting 195 catches, 3,220 yards and 31 touchdowns in his four years there. The SMU product is a huge target standing at 6-foot-4, which allows him to high-point the ball really well.

Sutton will likely be a nice addition to the Broncos passing attack.

Hamilton was selected two rounds after Sutton. The Broncos obviously saw the receiver spots behind Thomas and Sanders as a need, drafting two guys in four rounds. Hamilton had a solid season last year for Penn State. He racked up 857 yards on 53 receptions, adding on nine touchdowns.

It was hard to be a focal point of an offense that featured now-New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, though. This receiving group should prove to be very beneficial for Keenum.
