Denver Broncos: Biggest Strengths and Weaknesses for 2018

USA Today Sports

Weakness: Offensive Line

The offensive line play was atrocious for the Broncos last year. The Broncos especially struggled when it came to pass protection, allowing 52 sacks. That was the third most in the NFL. That will definitely need to improve if they want to keep Case Keenum healthy and at his best. It’s hard to have a good passing offense when your QB is running for his life.

On the left side, the Broncos still have Garett Bolles at tackle, while Ronald Leary is at guard. Bolles started in all 16 games last year but will need to show improvement this year in pass protection. The left tackle is the most important offensive lineman when the quarterback is right-handed, having to protect his blind side.

Bolles must step up this year to show why he was worth a first-round pick last year.

Matt Paradis returns as the starting center for the third straight year. Paradis was a sixth-round pick for the Broncos in 2014. He has been very solid as a late-round pick for the Broncos. Paradis has started in 48 straight games, which is huge for an offensive lineman. Like everyone else, pass protection is an area that must be improved even at the center position.

On the right side, Connor McGovern will be the starter at guard. McGovern is one of the most offensive lineman names I’ve seen. He comes into this year starting in just five games in his two-year career. At tackle, the Broncos brought in Jared Veldheer from free agency. Veldheer has been a very solid right tackle for many years with the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals.

Hopefully he can help shore up their offensive line.
