The Denver Broncos aren’t expected to be massive players in free agency this offseason, but if the fit is right, they won’t shy away from spending money. John Elway is desperate to get the team back into playoff contention and there are a few intriguing players that would make sense.
Matt Miller of Bleacher Report has one potential name to keep an eye on this offseason. He listed the Broncos as one of the potential landing spot for defensive end Arik Armstead.
Armstead would certainly be an intriguing option for the Broncos. Vic Fangio is all about the defensive side of the ball and Armstead would be a nice addition alongside Von Miller and Bradley Chubb long-term. There are some concerns about his consistency at times, but Armstead is an intimidating presence.
Standing in at 6-foot-7 and 290 pounds, Armstead can be a nightmare for opposing offensive lines. He showcased that last season with the San Francisco 49ers.
In the 2019 season with the 49ers, Armstead ended up recording 54 tackles, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two defended passes. Those numbers show the kind of potential that Armstead possesses. Denver’s defense would take a step forward with him on board.
There were other teams that Miller mentioned as potentially destinations for Armstead. Among them were the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans. If the Broncos want to sign Armstead, they will have to be aggressive early on.
At just 26 years old, Armstead would be a quality addition for Denver. Elway will be looking for impact players and that is exactly what he would be.
Expect to hear quite a few rumors about the Broncos this offseason. They are tired of being a mediocre football team and will do anything they can to get back into playoff contention.
