Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy is rapidly earning respect of DBs in training camp

The Denver Broncos entered the NFL offseason with a pressing need to add more receiver talent around star wideout Courtland Sutton. The beginning of that process involved the selection of Jerry Jeudy in the 2020 NFL Draft.

While it’s early in training camp, Jeudy is already showing off some fascinating potential. In fact, the defensive backs responsible for making things difficult on the rookie wideout have taken notice–even during the first-team action.

When discussing what Jeudy has shown so far in training camp, cornerback A.J. Bouye compared the rookie to Dallas Cowboys star Amari Cooper–highlighting the similarities with their route-running style.

“When I watch Jerry Jeudy, he kind of reminds me a lot of Amari Cooper in Oakland with how he’s running his routes, especially when guys are playing off,” Bouye said, via the team’s official website. “… The stems that he showed, leverage and how he attacks everything — he gets your feet to stop and that’s when it’s over. I like seeing things like that. It’s just helping me game plan myself against him because you never know when other receivers are going to try and implement that.”

Perhaps the most fascinating element to Bouye’s comment is that he is far from the first to Broncos player to make such a comparison. Kareem Jackson made it clear he is the best at getting in and out of his breaks on routes than anyone he’s played with before–consider, he’s been teammates with DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson.

It certainly appears as though Jeudy is not going to need much of a grace period when it comes to adjusting to the NFL level. That was a potential concern that experts had about the Broncos considering they have so much youth on offense during a unique offseason.

As long as Drew Lock is ready to take the second-year leap that many believe he is capable of making, the Denver Broncos could be a force to reckoned with. Both Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler appear primed to hit the ground running to start their NFL careers.
