Browns: 3 reasons Cleveland could shock the world in 2020

Let me ask you to think back a little bit, around this time one year ago, and remember what a simple life it was. The world was finally entering the acceptance stage on Tony Stark’s untimely passing in Avengers: Endgame, people were allowed to leave their homes without the fear of catching a virus, and the Cleveland Browns (yes, those Browns) were the football world’s darlings to make the postseason.

It’s amazing how much one year can change things. And in the case of the Browns, it’s amazing how one game can change everyone’s entire perception. Cleveland went from an MVP candidate quarterback with the league’s most talented offense to a fundamentally flawed, undisciplined team that didn’t look anywhere near the Super Bowl contender they were painted to be. All over the course of one game, a 43-13 beatdown on their home field, courtesy of the Tennessee Titans.

Everyone knows how the rest of the story goes. Baker Mayfield, that MVP candidate quarterback, look less like the future of the league and more in line with the history of Browns quarterbacks that could not live up to expectations. The defense struggled, the offense failed to match the hype, all leading to a 6-10 finish to a season that was supposed to be different in Cleveland.

(Cue the 30 for 30 voice) But what if I told you, that the 2019 season was just an aberration for the Browns? Betting on Cleveland might be a fools’ errand, but rather than bury them based on past performance, try to look at the talent they have and the changes they’ve made.

From roster moves to coaching changes, there are three big reasons why the 2020 Browns could look like the team we all thought they would be in 2019. So let’s break those reasons down.
