This is the Tyrod Taylor Show
At first, it seemed as if Hue Jackson might be forced to make a QB switch, as Tyrod Taylor just could not get anything going. But then it all clicked and it made sense why the deal was made with the Buffalo Bills this offseason. Taylor is not a Super Bowl-winning player like the Philadelphia Eagles’ Nick Foles, but he understands that the game is won with preparation and consistency.
The Steelers defense kept the pressure on and, when his receivers were covered, Taylor didn’t panic or force the issue. He improvised.
Taylor would finish the game 15-of-40 for 197 yards with one touchdown and one late interception, but he had 77 yards rushing on eight carries and a touchdown. Not to take anything away from the rookie, Baker Mayfield, but this is one of those games where a rookie was simply no fit to play in.
What Taylor will need to do going forward is spread the ball more. Only two receivers (David Njoku — three), (Jarvis Landry — seven) caught more than one ball.
For a team with a loaded backfield, the Browns trusted Taylor enough to call 40 pass plays. This is what the Browns offense will look like moving forward They have a QB who can get it done through the air and with his legs. They have a leader on their hands. There will be no mention of a quarterback switch anytime soon in Cleveland.
