No. 1: The Baker Mayfield Era Has Arrived

Browns coach Hue Jackson will wait until Monday to name his team’s starting quarterback against Oakland. But after Baker Mayfield’s debut performance, he would have to be certifiably insane to go in another direction.

Mayfield completed 17 of 23 passes for 201 yards against the Jets. More importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over and he led four scoring drives.

The 23 year old remained poised under pressure, helping Cleveland outscore the Jets 21-3 during his time on the field. He made all the throws he needed to make and he looked like a grizzled veteran instead of a rookie signal-caller.

It’s unfortunate any time a quarterback loses his starting job to an injury, but that’s the nature of the business. Tyrod Taylor did a solid job for the Browns, but Mayfield was the one who brought them their first win in nearly two years. As such, he has earned the opportunity to be the starter going forward.
