Browns Add Intriguing Offensive Weapon In New NFL Mock

Jameson Williams, Browns, NFL Draft

As the Cleveland Browns prepare for the upcoming NFL offseason, there are quite a few question marks surrounding the franchise. The biggest question is whether or not the Browns will stick with Baker Mayfield as their starter for next year. If they do, going out and adding another weapon for him in the NFL Draft could be a good course of action.

Following the move to trade Odell Beckham Jr., the Browns are left with Jarvis Landry, Anthony Schwartz, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Rashard Higgins as their top wide receivers. Could Cleveland look to add a young and dynamic wideout?

Pro Football Focus certainly thinks they could target one in the first round. In their new mock draft, they have the Browns taking Alabama standout wide receiver Jameson Williams.

Williams adds a much-needed deep threat to the Browns’ offense. He averaged 20.2 yards reception this past season, his first as a starter for Alabama.

Williams was a huge part of the Crimson Tide’s success this season. He has excellent speed and the ability to burn any defensive back who covers him down the field. That is something that the Browns could definitely use.

During the 2021 college football season with Alabama, Williams ended up catching 79 passes for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns. He stands in at 6-foot-2 as well, which gives him the ability to up and get the football over cornerbacks. If the Browns want another weapon, Williams would be the way to go.

There really are no excuses for the struggles that Mayfield had in 2021. He did deal with quite a few injury issues, but he had plenty of weapons. Adding one more dynamic threat for him would simply be another check on the list for getting rid of Mayfield after 2022 if he struggles once again.

Expect to see the Browns put together a very busy offseason. They are not happy with missing the playoffs and know that they are too talented to come up short. Adding a guy like Jameson Williams in the 2022 NFL Draft would be a good move both now and for the future, no matter who ends up at quarterback.
