Browns Could Pursue WR Allen Robinson In NFL Free Agency

Free agency is deep with impact wide receivers for the second consecutive year. One player who will be looking to cash in this offseason is Allen Robinson. The Cleveland Browns might just be a team to watch for him in free agency.

Robinson is entering free agency after playing under the franchise tag in 2021. This is the second time in his career that Robinson is entering free agency and once again entering under less than ideal circumstances.

When he signed with the Chicago Bears, Robinson was coming off of a torn ACL suffered in the first game of the 2017 season. This year, Robinson had the least productive season of his career, catching only 38 passes for 410 yards and one touchdown. Chicago’s offense was a mess last season, but Robinson recorded the worst overall grade of his career thus far with a 66.9.

Despite his struggles, he is still expected to cash in on a new contract. Spotrac is projecting his AAV to be $16.3 million, which speaks volumes to just how talented of a player Robinson is. Despite some subpar quarterback play, Robinson has surpassed the 1,000-yard plateau three times in his career.

There will be several teams that show interest in bringing Robinson in. Despite how 2021 went, Robinson is a bonafide No. 1 wide receiver. The track record speaks for itself and a team could be getting a steal if his market is hampered at all by last season.

One team that would benefit from landing Robinson is the Cleveland Browns. They need a No. 1 receiver after the Odell Beckham Jr. trade backfired. Jarvis Landry could also be on his way out of town as the team can save a significant amount of money by releasing or trading him.

The one thing that Cleveland has working against them is that they don’t have a great quarterback situation. After seeing what happened with Beckham, players may be hesitant to sign there as long as Baker Mayfield is locked in as the starting quarterback.

Robinson could very well take a little less money to play with a higher upside quarterback, such as Justin Herbert with the Los Angeles Chargers or Mac Jones with the New England Patriots. In Los Angeles, he would share go-to duties with Keenan Allen. With the Patriots, he would be the unquestioned No. 1 option with Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor filling in behind him.
