The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to one of the more surprising starts in the NFL. Through two weeks, they are 2-0, defeating the Minnesota Vikings on the road in Week 1 and the Chicago Bears at home in Week 2.

Baker Mayfield, who won the starting quarterback job over Kyle Trask in the offseason, has been excellent. He is completing 69.1 percent of his passes, throwing for 490 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions.

His play has had the offense moving in the right direction in both games and has been a major reason for their success. While Mayfield has played excellently, their defense deserves a lot of credit for the hot start as well.

Tampa Bay is top 10 in points and yardage allowed through two weeks, holding both the Vikings and Bears to 17 points apiece. They’re a combined 0-4 thus far this season, but you have to play who is on the schedule and the Buccaneers have taken full advantage.

One of the key players on that defense is linebacker Devin White. White spent the majority of the offseason looking for a way off of the Buccaneers, requesting a trade and looking for a change of scenery.

But, his tune has changed drastically early in the season. White called himself stupid for looking to change teams this offseason and is happy about the direction things are going with his younger teammates.

White is playing out the final season on his rookie contract, a fifth-year option. He was seeking a new contract this offseason and thought a trade request would help speed things up when it came to receiving one.

A new deal didn’t come from the Buccaneers, which is what motivated him to seek a trade. But, things are going well in the early going and White seems happy with the situation he is in. If he continues playing at a high level, he is going to cash in with a potentially record-setting contract for linebackers.
