Buffalo Bills Still Looking At Signing Odell Beckham Jr.?

The potential suitors for Odell Beckham Jr. seem to be lessening by the day. The Dallas Cowboys, who were linked heavily to him but reportedly found some issues during his physical, opted to sign veteran wide receiver T.Y. Hilton as they wanted to have someone they knew could play before the season was over. Owner Jerry Jones has said on more than one occasion that the move to sign Hilton does not necessarily rule them out of the Beckham sweepstakes. The Buffalo Bills have seemingly taken a similar route as well.

Looking to bolster their wide receiver depth, the team talked Cole Beasley out of retirement and signed him to the practice squad. Buffalo currently has four wide receivers on their active roster with Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Isaiah McKenzie and Khalil Shakir. There are four more now on the practice squad with Beasley joining John Brown, Tanner Gentry and KeeSean Johnson.

They would seemingly have enough depth, but like Jones before him, Bills general manager Brandon Beane said that bringing Beasley in doesn’t mean Beckham can’t be signed as well.

“We haven’t closed any doors,” Beane said, via Nick Veronica of RochesterFirst.com. “We had a good visit with him. And that’s probably the extent of it. . . . Signing Cole to the practice squad doesn’t mean we would rule anything out. Again, we’re just kind of going to move forward with the guys we got right now, though.”

It is certainly up for debate just exactly what Beane means in his statement. Could it be an indication that the Bills are keeping Beckham in mind should an injury occur and the team needs to sign another wide receiver? It would be hard to imagine Buffalo bringing in another veteran receiver given the depth that they have already amassed.

It sounds as if a Beckham signing is on the back burner for the Bills despite he and Beasley having two totally different skill sets. Right now, the only team that Beckham visited with that hasn’t signed a wide receiver is the New York Giants, whose need at the position has been evident all season.
