Earn a long-term contract for next offseason
Again, instead of giving him a multi-year deal this offseason, the Cardinals chose to slap the franchise tag on Drake. For some players, they would feel disrespected by the tag, but Drake understood where the team was coming from.
By receiving the tag, Drake is set to make $8.4 million in 2020 with the Cardinals. Technically speaking, with a $8.4 base salary, Drake is currently projected to be the fourth highest-paid running back next season.
However, even though Drake got a raise with the franchise tag, getting a long-term contract next offseason should be at the top of his list of priorities. If he can compile another productive campaign in 2020, Drake should be able to net a multi-year contract, regardless of whether or not it’s with the Cardinals.
