Boast a top 20 scoring defense
While Arizona’s offense is receiving a ton of hype this offseason, the success of the Cardinals could rest on the shoulders of the defense. Last season, Arizona finished with the No. 32 ranked defense in yardage allowed per game (402) and the No. 28 ranked scoring defense, allowing 27.6 points per contest.
Of course, both Patrick Peterson and Chandler Jones are the two proven defensive leaders that reside on the Cardinals. But besides those two, Arizona is longing to see other players step up on the defensive side of the ball. The additions of Jordan Phillips, De’Vondre Campbell, and Isaiah Simmons this offseason should help the Cardinals stifle opposing teams a bit better than they did a season ago.
Throughout the last two seasons, Arizona has done a dismal job of preventing the opposing team from scoring. With that in mind, concluding the 2020 season with a top 20 scoring defense — for the first time since 2017 — is a realistic goal for the Cardinals.
