This Cardinals-Bears Trade Sends DeAndre Hopkins To Chicago

The Chicago Bears are going to be very active this off-season when it comes to upgrading their roster. There are a lot of holes to fill, but Ryan Poles has a lot of assets at his disposal to make some big moves.

The Bears own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, which they could trade for a king’s ransom. Adding multiple draft picks by moving down a few spots would be the ideal scenario for Chicago as it would enable them to add impact pieces at a low cost.

In addition to the premium draft pick, the Bears are also heading into the offseason with a ton of cap space. Chicago is slated to have over $94 million to spend, meaning they can throw their weight around a little bit in free agency. If there is a player that they want to pursue, there isn’t a franchise in the league that can outbid them.

All of that extra salary cap space also opens up avenues for the Bears to acquire players in trades. There are a few impact veterans that could be on the move as teams navigate their own salary cap issues. One of the players who the Bears should be keeping tabs on is DeAndre Hopkins.

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly looking to move Hopkins this offseason and he is seeking a new contract as well. While his name still carries a lot of weight and he remains productive when on the field, there are a lot of factors working against the Cardinals getting maximum value in return for him.

When taking into account his struggles staying on the field the last two seasons, the Cardinals may not find too big of a market for Hopkins. Add in the money he is owed and seeking and this could be a very expensive venture for the franchise that acquires him.

That could make this a prime opportunity for the Bears to strike. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, it may not cost much to acquire Hopkins either. A second-round pick seems high in his opinion, which will surprise a lot of people given how productive he remains when on the field.

In need of a No. 1 receiver to help Justin Fields continue developing, the Bears should pounce at the opportunity to land Hopkins seemingly at a discount. Chicago can take a quantity over quality approach and offer a third, fifth and sixth-round pick for Hopkins, trading away one of the extras they have in each round.

The most the Bears should offer is a third-round pick as it sounds like Hopkins’ market won’t be overflowing with offers. The less competition for him the better for the Bears, who should be holding onto their prime draft assets given where they are in their rebuild.
