5. Cornerback
Patrick Peterson remains one of the best in the league at the position and is a true shutdown corner. Yet the Cardinals don’t appear to have anybody capable of producing the same kind of play across from him.
Arizona traded with the Cleveland Browns to acquire Jamar Taylor, however, starting him would appear a risky move. Taylor, per Pro Football Focus, allowed 69.3 percent of his targets to be completed in 2017. He has also allowed a passer rating of 111.4 in his coverage in his career.
Journeyman Bene Benwikere, familiar with head coach Steve Wilks from his time in Carolina with the Panthers, is competing for a starting role early this season. Sixth-round rookie Christian Campbell has flashed some promise in preseason after recovering from an ankle injury.
However, if he or Brandon Williams, who has endured a dismal first two years in the league, see extended regular-season action, it will likely be a bad sign for the Cards.
