Carolina Panthers: 3 Best Performances from Week 1 vs. Cowboys

Cam Newton, Quarterback

Cam Newton carried the Panthers in the first half of Sunday’s contest and completed 17 of 26 passes for the game. He finished with 161 passing yards and also ran the ball 13 times for 58 yards and a score to lead the team in rushing.

Most importantly, Newton didn’t turn the ball over. A year after throwing 16 interceptions for his highest turnover rate since tossing 17 picks in his rookie season, he began the 2018 campaign with not only a strong completion percentage, but a turnover-free outing.

With veteran coach Norv Turner now calling plays on offense, many have predicted big things for Newton in 2018. I am one of those people, and at least for one week, he appears to be on his way to a much-improved year behind center.

If they hope to get to the promised land, the Panthers need another MVP level season from their franchise quarterback. He is what makes their offense go, and that was definitely the case on Sunday.
