Carolina Panthers: 3 Best Performances from Week 1 vs. Cowboys

Christian McCaffrey, Running Back

His numbers may not have been eye-popping, but second-year running back Christian McCaffrey had a solid debut as the Panthers’ featured back on Sunday. He carried the ball 10 times for 50 yards and caught six passes for 45 yards, with Cam Newton targeting him a team-high nine times.

The Panthers love McCaffrey’s versatility, and he showed what he can do several times against the Cowboys. He even made two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Sean Lee look silly on multiple occasions, which isn’t something you see every day.

It will be interesting to see how many carries McCaffrey gets going forward, as C.J. Anderson also did some good work for Carolina on the ground. But it’s obvious that he will remain a focal point of the offense, be it as a runner or a receiver.

In any event, he’s a nice piece for Norv Turner and the Panthers’ offense to tinker with. It should be fun to watch him continue to develop as an NFL player.
