Cam Newton didn’t deliver his best performance on Sunday, but he actually played better than he did in the Panthers’ Week 5 win over the Giants. In all, he completed 27 of 40 passes for 275 yards and two TDs.

Despite throwing a first-half interception to former teammate Josh Norman, Newton ended up completing 67.5 percent of his passes. He also posted a passer rating of 93.2.

On the ground, Newton added nine carries for 43 yards, including a 15-yard burst that accounted for the Panthers’ longest run of the game. So he finished with 318 total yards in a mostly solid outing.

Not only that, but Newton said the following after the game, via the Associated Press:

“You have games and days like that. My days of sobbing are over with. I’m excited for what the future holds. I hope we get to see this team again.”

That’s exactly the kind of optimism you want to hear from the leader of your offense.
