Carolina Panthers: 3 Best Performances from Week 6 Loss vs. Redskins

Devin Funchess, Wide Receiver

Devin Funchess doesn’t always play like a No. 1 wide receiver, but he certainly did on Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder used his size advantage to come down with — or go up and get — several passes.

Overall, Funchess finished with five catches for 74 yards and a score, which came in the second quarter:

That output resulted in Funchess’ best performance since he caught seven passes for 77 yards on nine targets (all season highs) in a 31-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. Unfortunately, that means that he has had his two best games in the Panthers’ losses, but that shouldn’t cause people to scoff at his performance.

The Panthers need Funchess to play like he did on Sunday because it will make an already talented offense even more potent. Carolina didn’t play its best against the Redskins, but Moore’s two early fumbles didn’t help matters, so I’m willing to give the Panthers a pass for one less-than-stellar game.
