Christian McCaffrey, Running Back
Another major playmaker for the Panthers is second-year running back Christian McCaffrey, who had another noteworthy outing against the Buccaneers. Carolina’s dual-threat back — dual-threat in terms of his ability to both carry the ball and catch it out of the backfield — finished with 17 carries for 79 yards and two TDs while adding five receptions for 78 yards.
McCaffrey was the Panthers’ leading rusher and receiver on Sunday. The 22-year-old now has 880 total yards of offense (502 rushing, 378 receiving) through eight games. In addition, he has five total TDs (three rushing, two receiving).
There’s a reason Cam Newton said “The talent level we have on this team is extremely scary” during his postgame press conference. Meanwhile, McCaffrey had the following to say of Sunday’s contest, via the Associated Press:
“We were playing with momentum and when you’re playing like that, we have a lot of juice coming our way so it does make it very fun.”
A lot of juice indeed. And a lot more wins ahead if the Panthers keep playing like they have over the past few weeks.
