Cam Newton, Quarterback
Cam Newton is off to a great start for the Panthers in 2018, but last Sunday’s outing against the Giants was his worst of the season. Although he finished with 266 total yards and two touchdowns, he also threw a pair of second-half interceptions.
Sunday’s contest should be a bounce-back game for the Panthers’ franchise quarterback. With Greg Olsen likely back in the fold and former teammate Josh Norman lining up at cornerback on the other side, Newton will probably be licking his chops when he takes the field against Washington.
Newton has yet to complete less than 60 percent of his passes in any game this season after seven sub-60 percent performances last year and 11 in 2016. So that’s a dramatic step forward for the career 58.8 percent passer.
Look for last week’s solid but unspectacular performance to be an aberration on what has otherwise been a phenomenal first four games for Carolina’s talented signal caller. No quarterback is going to go an entire season without throwing an interception, but the Panthers still won and Newton was still a major reason for their victory, as he usually is.
