Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young Put On Notice By NFL Analyst

The 2023 went about as poorly as possible for Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young. The No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft struggled mightily in his rookie season, as the Panthers went 2-15.

To make matters worse, the No. 2 pick, quarterback C.J. Stroud, hit the ground running with a historic rookie season for the Houston Texans. He led his team to an AFC South title and playoff win in Year 1.

The Carolina Panthers didn’t even receive the only benefit of a losing season; a high draft pick. Their 2024 first-round pick was owned by the Chicago Bears from the trade to move up and select Bryce Young.

That is part of the reason that Sam Monson of PFF has placed Bryce Young on his list of players under pressure to perform in Year 2. His development is key to the franchise having any hopes of turning things around soon.

“There’s no real way to look positively on Bryce Young’s rookie campaign, but the good news is that the Panthers’ front office recognized the severity of the situation and upgraded every support structure around him this offseason, from the coaching to the receivers to the offensive line to the backfield.

Young averaged just 5.5 yards per attempt last season, recording 22 turnover-worthy plays and an astronomical pressure-to-sack rate of 24.5%…

The Panthers will hope that the team around Young was a far bigger factor in his failure as a rookie than his ability, and Year 2 is when he needs to prove them right,” Monson wrote.

At wide receiver, the Carolina Panther acquired Diontae Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers. They used a first-round pick on Xavier Legette to bolster the receiving corps around Adam Thielen, Jonathan Mingo and Terrace Marshall Jr.

In the second round, running back Jonathan Brooks was selected. His collegiate teammate at Texas, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders was selected in the fourth round.

In free agency, the Carolina Panthers signed Yosh Nijman, Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis to bolster the offensive line. All of this was done in an effort to help Bryce Young get things on track in 2024.

For head coach, the Carolina Panthers hired Dave Canales. He was the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023 and helped Baker Mayfield put together a career season.

The franchise is hopeful that he can do the same for Bryce Young in 2024 and beyond. The pressure is on for both of them, as head coaching and starting quarterback jobs will turn over fast if they aren’t producing.
