Panthers Trade For Raiders’ Hunter Renfrow In Bold Scenario

The Carolina Panthers could certainly use some receivers to help rookie quarterback Bryce Young. Could they find an answer between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline? Perhaps in the form of Las Vegas Raiders wideout Hunter Renfrow?

The Panthers are in a weird spot. They are 0-5 and clearly rebuilding, so it’s not like they would want to take on a lot of salary or make any big-time moves for veteran players in the coming weeks.

However, Young clearly needs some help, and Carolina could get creative in attempting to buy offensive help while also remaining in rebuilding mode.

Could Renfrow be the happy medium?

Renfrow has been a forgotten man in the Raiders’ offense, logging just six catches on nine targets through the first five weeks of the season.

There was a time when Renfrow was strongly featured in Las Vegas’ aerial attack, as he hauled in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns back in 2021. That earned him a Pro Bowl appearance.

But last year, injuries limited Renfrow to just 10 games, and he ended up catching 36 passes for 330 yards and a couple of scores.

It seems clear that the 27-year-old could be on the outs in Vegas, but given that he is under contract through next season, he won’t be able to bolt via free agency in the spring.

Perhaps the Raiders could do both Renfrow and themselves a favor by trading him now? The Panthers could offer Las Vegas a 2024 third-round draft pick, which would represent a rather substantial return for a wide out who has barely been part of the offense this season.

Renfrow is not exactly the type of player to take an offense to the next level, but he provide Young with a sure-handed pass-catcher on short and intermediate routes.

It’s clear that Hunter Renfrow is no longer valued in Vegas. Carolina could certainly make better use of him.
