The Green Bay Packers have some major soul-searching to do this offseason. After getting bounced in embarrassing fashion by the San Francisco 49ers in their first playoff game of the year, the future of Aaron Rodgers is very much in doubt. Some believe he could retire, some believe he could return for another reason, and others believe that the Packers will end up trading him this offseason.
Granted, it seems unlikely that Rodgers will hang up the cleats after two back-to-back MVP-caliber years. However, no one should count that option out. He truly is an outside the box thinker and whatever decision he makes could surprise us.
CBS Sports has an idea of what they believe will end up happening this offseason. They have the Packers making a massive draft-day trade sending Rodgers to the Denver Broncos. With the No. 9 overall pick that they would receive from Denver, they went shopping for a dynamic wide receiver in Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson to help out Jordan Love.
With Rodgers gone — and maybe Davante Adams? — Green Bay turns its attention to receiver for Jordan Love with this pick it received in the Rodgers trade.
Wilson would certainly be an intriguing pickup for the Packers. He would help replace Davante Adams, who would almost certainly want out of Green Bay if Rodgers leaves town. The Packers could be getting their new No. 1 wideout with this pick.
During the 2021 season with Ohio State, Wilson caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has the speed to make plays deep and excellent route-running ability to be a possession wideout as well. Both of those skills are what the Packers will need to add for Love.
No one wants to see Aaron Rodgers leave Green Bay. Well, that might not be true, but it would feel very strange if Rodgers did leave the Packers. This option is very much a possibility though and the Packers need to focus on their future as well as their present.
Making this kind of a move would shake up the entire makeup of the NFL. The Packers sending Rodgers to the Broncos for a huge package is something that we just might have to deal with this offseason.
