CBS Sports Suggests Potential Kyler Murray Trade For Browns

The Arizona Cardinals could look a lot different offensively in 2022 than they did in 2021. They have a few free agents at wide receiver in Christian Kirk and A.J. Green, while tight ends Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams will also be hitting the open market this offseason. Kyler Murray is also reportedly frustrated with the team and some speculation about a trade has been mentioned, even to a team like the Cleveland Browns.

If they are unable to retain them, at least there are other options that could replace them in free agency or the 2022 NFL Draft. However, one position that they would likely fail finding a comparable replacement is at the quarterback position.

Kyler Murray has shown that he can play at an MVP level and is a big reason the Cardinals have turned things around in recent seasons. However, could he potentially be on the move this offseason?

Murray erased all mention of the Cardinals from his social media pages. This has led some people to believe that negotiations haven’t gone well in the early going on a contract extension and he could request a trade.

Entering the fourth season of his career, Murray may not have the most leverage to demand a trade, but in this day and age, anything is possible. If Murray is adamant about wanting to leave the Cardinals, a deal could be worked out.

If Murray is made available, teams around the league will line up for him. The amount of teams in the NFL that Murray would upgrade far outnumbers the teams that don’t need him. One team that was suggested as a possible landing spot for Murray was the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The suggestion was made over at CBS Sports, as Josh Edwards’s most recent mock draft includes a trade between the Cardinals and Browns that would land Murray in Cleveland. Murray would be a huge upgrade on Baker Mayfield, who was selected first overall in the draft before him.

Could this be a trade that benefits both parties? Mayfield thrived in the air raid offense collegiately. An offense that puts him in the shotgun more, as the Cardinals offense under Kliff Kingsbury would, is one that he could benefit from being in.

With Murray taking over for Mayfield, the Browns would be on the path to being contenders in the AFC. They have a strong roster, but with a few tweaks here and there, they would be a handful for their opponents, especially with the explosive Murray leading the offense.
