The twists and turns of the Jonathan Taylor and Indianapolis Colts saga never seem to end.

A recent report surfaced that rival teams were wondering if the Colts were ever actually serious about trading their star running back, as they had been maintaining an extraordinarily high asking price since the offseason and hadn’t been willing to budge.

That led many to believe that Taylor would ultimately take the field for the Colts once he became eligible to return from the PUP list in Week 5.

However, ESPN’s Dan Graziano is reporting otherwise, saying it wouldn’t surprise him if Taylor ends up making his 2023 debut with a new team and that there is now “more fertile ground” for a potential Taylor trade.

Indianapolis held trade discussions with the Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins last month, but talks did not go very far due to the Colts’ demands.

Taylor is currently rehabbing from offseason ankle surgery after playing in just 11 games last season due to the injury.

The 24-year-old is at odds with Indy’s front office because of a contract dispute. The Colts declined to give Taylor an extension going into 2023, which prompted the University of Wisconsin product to ask for a trade.

Taylor established himself as one of the best halfbacks in football as soon as his 2020 rookie campaign, rushing for 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns. Then, the following year, Taylor broke out in a major way, leading the NFL in both rushing yards (1,811) and rushing scores (18) en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

He was on pace for another big season in 2022 before bowing out with the ankle issue, as he had totaled 861 yards and four touchdowns through 11 contests.

The Colts have been finding ways to win without Jonathan Taylor, as they are 2-1 and will take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
