Chargers Mentioned As Free Agency Destination For Chandler Jones

The Los Angeles Chargers finished the 2021 season with a 9-8 record, falling just short of qualifying for a spot in the postseason. While they technically improved in Brandon Staley’s first season as head coach, it was still a disappointing finish to the campaign.

Los Angeles finished the season 1-3, with an inexplicable loss on the road to the Houston Texans in Week 16. The other losses were in overtime to AFC West rivals in the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.

A common theme in those losses to end the season, and throughout the entire year, was the team’s defense. A lot of resources were spent on the offense in recent years, as Justin Herbert looks like a franchise quarterback, so the Chargers spent to make sure they could protect and keep him standing upright.

The Chargers have a high octane offense, but it is time to start reshaping the defense. Staley was a defensive coordinator before taking the head coaching job, so it is time he starts getting things figured out in Los Angeles.

There are some great players on that defense, such as Derwin James Jr. and Joey Bosa. Asante Samuel Jr. looks like a great player that was snagged in the 2021 NFL Draft, but they could still use some more help.

Over at Bleacher Report, they believe the Chargers will get the help that they are seeking. They believe that pass-rushing extraordinaire Chandler Jones will end up with the Chargers.

Jones had a great bounce-back in 2021 after injuries derailed his 2020 season. He tallied 10.5 sacks in 15 games this season and has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL throughout his career. He is the Cardinals’ all-time leader in sacks with 71.5 in 84 games.

Adding a bookend as talented as Jones to Bosa, with Uchenna Nwosu emerging as a pass rusher as well, would give the Chargers an intimidating pass rush. Opposing offenses will no longer be able to key in on and double or triple-team Bosa knowing the Chargers have other players that can also get after the quarterback across from him.
