Chargers predicted to trade up for Tua Tagovailoa in new mock draft

The Los Angeles Chargers are making a change at the quarterback position after years of Philip Rivers being the face of their franchise. Who they will target to replace him remains to be seen.

Some rumors have connected the Chargers and Tom Brady, while others have mentioned that Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston could be the option. Others think that Tyrod Taylor could be given the chance to replace Rivers.

CBS Sports has other ideas, as they have projected an aggressive trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft from the Chargers in order to snag Alabama standout quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Let’s try on this trade for size. The Chargers aren’t absolutely desperate at quarterback with Tyrod Taylor on the roster, but would probably want to plan for the future. They figure Tagovailoa won’t fall to them and they like the nucleus they have on defense for the next few seasons.

Tagovailoa would be an intriguing addition for the Chargers. Justin Herbert seems like a better prospect, but prior to his hip injury, Tagovailoa was widely considered the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Last season for the Crimson Tide before his injury, Tagovailoa ended up completing 71.4 percent of his pass attempts for 2,840 yards, 33 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also scored two touchdowns on the ground.

Los Angeles would be wise to focus on bringing in a young quarterback to replace Rivers. Tagovailoa has some question marks surrounding him, but it’s worth a shot for the Chargers.
